Do you see yourself in the: Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, etc? But are nervous about what life in the military would be like. Are you worried about starting as the lowest rank of private.

Some have found that JROTC is the place to go.

JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps), this is a high school program and would mostly teach discipline, leadership, life skills, physical fitness, etc.

“It’s a citizen leadership program, so it teaches people how to be a leader/leadership skills. “junior Kevin Wright said”

The program offers most branches and classes to get the cadets ready for whatever type of work they want to work in. Students who take JRROTC are not required to join the military at the end of the program.

“The reason why I join, because  I wanted to build up my career to get into the Air Force and it has, “ Kevin Wright said.“ A lot of people think that JRROTC is just for the military, it can be as far as if you need credits or need a seal you can join for those reasons or if you want the leadership skills from the program, that’s also a good reason to join,” Wright said.

The reason why people take JRROTC is because if they want to be in the military most of their life, JRROTC does all the stuff you would do in basic training and you start with a higher rank when you get to the military or what branch you’re going be in aka more money for you.

“ With my recruiter, I got a three rank; so I will be E3: I will get better pay, better benefits, and a reserved job I want,”Wright said.

In basic training or in other words PT (Physical training), participants workout with their squad or platoon to mainly improve their physical ability.

“Since I’ll be going for the job I want, it needs special warfare. I need to do basic training then Georgia and Fort Benning to do Airborne school. I’ll do special selects, swimming, medical school for 39 weeks… it will be a two-year process after basic,” Wright said .“With our JROTC program we have two teams: we have our drill team that goes out and does competitions/ state competitions/ and even nationals… and our fitness will go to Daytona, Florida around may and compete for best squad/platoon.”

Students at GlenOak have to go to Green High School to do this.
