Over the summer photography teacher Jeanenne Mathis-Bertosa went to the Olympics with her family. Below she discusses her experience.
Describe where you went during the Olympics?
“My husband and I went to Paris with an aunt and uncle and we stayed in the city of Paris in the 16th district which is the neighborhood referred to as the Trockadero and it’s a pretty close to the Eiffel Tower.”
What led you to going to the Olympics?
“We had family members who are big sports fans and they had the foresight to get an airBNB a year and a half in advance. We knew we had a place to stay and they were pretty excited about going to the Olympics and asked if we would like to, to join in. Certainly, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity so we made the investment.”
What kind of photos were you mostly looking for?
So I didn’t go specifically as a photographer for the Olympics I went as a spectator. But myself I like to shoot documentary photography so I was looking in at the city and the crowds and the spectators coming from other countries and how they were interacting with the city
Did anyone come with you?
My husband traveled with me. My husband is a journalist and newspaper editor so he and I travel together and do travel stories
What was the most difficult part of the Olympics in your opinion?
“I mean for my standpoint I think negotiating tickets was probably the challenging all though we did have everything arranged well in advanced before we got there. The city of Paris and the Olympic committee had a app set up were all of your tickets were lined up and distributed to you the day before in the app. Our uncle, who was in charge of finding, organizing, purchasing (the tickets), was able to push them out to us.
