The administration is taking new steps to bring the morning announcements to everyone. This new movement is spearheaded by second-year building secretary Alison Pickering. In an interview with Pickering, this new format aims at bringing a more united community.
“Students and teachers were coming to me asking ‘Hey what was that announcement?’, so I began pushing out a transcript in case anyone may have missed the announcements,” Pickering said.
A common problem facing GlenOak students is the lack of attention paid to announcements. Students have been missing crucial information about sporting events, clubs and academic opportunities. Making announcements as accessible as possible has been a priority of the administration.
Announcements are being pushed to students in multiple formats, read over the speakers during third period, posted via grade Google classrooms, and now taking a new form of digital displays in the commons and hallways.
“There are four new screens to display announcements, two in the main commons, one by the main office and one in upper c,” Pickering said.
Announcements will now be displayed in the commons and hallways on digital screens, allowing students to have access to information at any turn. Additionally, student clubs, organizations or teams can share information via this new format. Any club or team leader can share this information with Pickering and can be displayed on the screens.
These screens allow students to engage in their community activities. The ultimate goal of these announcements is to unite our school and strengthen the Plain Local community.
