Shale Craft Coffee opened its doors in April of 2022. Since then, the small business has grown to be an integral part of the North Canton community. Owner Jeff Joliat introduced extensive seasonal menus, making specialty drinks such as the Apple Chaider, an apple cider chai latte.
The cozy atmosphere makes Shale the ideal location for studying, meeting up with an old friend or cracking open your favorite book. Comfy chairs, couches and a fireplace add to the familiar homey feel.
It is not just the cozy environment that is welcoming, the baristas are kind and aim to create a connection with every customer. With large coffee chains focusing on speed of service, it is refreshing to find a place that not only makes your drink in a timely manner but also makes your day better through a friendly interaction.
The wide array of beverage choices or customizations allows for Shale to provide everyone with the perfect drink. Shale offers everything from coffees to teas to smoothies, with the added benefit of being able to substitute any dairy options.
Shale features typical flavors such as vanilla and cinnamon while also featuring specialty flavors like pistachio, lavender and toasted marshmallow. A clear contrast with the big coffee chains found on every corner like Starbucks and Dunkin.
Shale has aimed at creating a welcoming environment for the local community and offers a student discount to the surrounding school districts and universities. Affordable prices are hard to find; a latte at Shale runs around four dollars in comparison to Starbucks and Dunkins which costs five dollars. This makes Shale the ideal place for students to study or get their greatly needed caffeine fix.
Any time I stop by Shale I always order a chai latte with two shots of espresso. This coffee shop staple is not easily done well, but I believe Shale has the best one in the area.
