The GlenOak basketball team finished its basketball season with a 12-12 record, making it to the second round of the District Playoffs.
Though many were disappointed with how the season ended because it did not meet the high expectations of last year’s District Championship, it was still a successful season. The team got an upset win in the first round of the playoffs against Berea-Midpark and also had many memorable moments along the way.
“Personally, I didn’t think we met the expectations that I had set, but I feel that we still played as a team, over the course of the year and towards the end of the season,” senior basketball player Lisbon James said.
One of the biggest moments of the season was when senior Reese Zerger scored his 1000th point of his career with GlenOak High School. This was a major moment and accomplishment for Zerger.
Another successful takeaway from this season was the 91-78 win over Berea-Midpark in the playoffs. This was an important and exciting win for the players and coaches in a year where the team was not able to meet the projections they set for themselves.
“My favorite moment definitely has to be coach Hairston dancing in the locker room after that first tournament game win,” James said.
This team was also able to get a win against Brunswick, the team that knocked them out of the State Playoffs last season.
“My favorite game was beating Brunswick, for the revenge game, for last year, when we lost to them,” senior basketball player Bryce Broom said.
This was also a very important season for the seniors.
“(This season) was supposed to mean, as seniors, me, Bryce and Reese going all out, and even though we didn’t meet the expectations that we had set, just still getting to play with them was an honor,” James said.
Overall, even though the team may have been disappointed because the team was not able to get to where they predicted themselves to be, there were still many moments this season that were very meaningful and showed that this season was a success even though they may not have achieved as much as they wanted to.
