After a season filled with hard work and dedication, the GlenOak swim team celebrated its successful season. The team finished its season at districts this year, bringing home several medals and personal bests.
This year at districts Rowan Holiday placed 9th in the 100 butterfly, and Noah Fitzsimmons finished 15th in the 50 freestyle.
“Our boys 200 freestyle relay were able to secure 7th place and podium at the district meet. We also had a record number of Federal League honors recipients, the most under our coach’s time,” senior Sydney Harbor said.
Harbor herself had her own achievements this year setting a new personal record of 26 seconds in her 50 freestyle.
“I had a pretty great sectional meet with a PR in my 100 and 50 free, I went under 26 seconds in my 50 free so I was pretty excited about that,” Harbor said.
Despite all the achievements, there were some setbacks. During January, the swimmers had to take a couple of days off of swimming due to the cold temperatures closing school.
“In the swim world time in the pool is very important, so when we came back from that week of snow days I think we handled it well,” junior Emma Studer said.
A lot of the swimmers this year had to step up and take a higher role due to the amount of seniors who graduated last year.
“The seniors really found their place and stepped up when the team needed them the most,” junior Noah Fitzsimmons said. “Lots of new swimmers set great examples of what it means to be successful at this sport and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next season.”
Even this year, there’s another handful of seniors departing, such as Sydney Harbor, Kylee Pudder and Izzy Beatle, for the girls’ team. For the boys Alex Click, Nico Burress, Nate Loew, Shea Sestina, Harvey Takano and Zach McGregor.
“The team is graduating many seniors following this season. Five of our seniors were a part of the district team and we are graduating one diver,” Harbor said. “They helped to make this season a fun and unforgettable experience for the whole team and their presence will be greatly missed.”
Although the year is over, this team has already set their goals for next season to work on over this off season.
“I know a few of our athletes, me included, are hoping to qualify for the State meet next season on relays and individually. Our team overall hopes to continue to get faster next season,” Studer said.
