At GlenOak High School, the spring offers no shortage of athletic activities. Track and field, baseball, lacrosse, softball and boys’ tennis are all in season during the spring. This year, all of GlenOak’s athletic programs had successful seasons and finished with a winning record.

Baseball is coached by Raymond Frisbee. This year, GlenOak’s baseball team was second in the Federal League. Their overall record is 21-4. They are currently ranked fifth in the state. They are at the end of their season and are on a 13-game winning streak.

This year, the Federal League is considered the toughest league to play baseball in. The team will play against Lorian on May 28 at 5 p.m. in the district semi-final.

Scott Ferrell is the head coach for track and field, with 13 coaches under him. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams had a successful season and were undefeated in the Federal League.

“Everybody supports each other. The throwers will support the runners, the jumpers will support the throwers. It’s very involved,” freshman Sophia Giavasis said.

Both teams won the Federal League Championship, which they have done for four years in a row. Over the weekend, both the girls and boys track teams were District Champions.

While girls’ tennis is in season in the fall, boys’ tennis is a spring sport. It is coached by Scott Fletcher. They finished their season with a record of 10-5 in the regular season and 4-2 in the Federal League. They placed third in the Federal League.

Sophomore Jack Slay and senior Dylan Wiles were undefeated in tennis doubles.  They will compete in the state tournament this weekend in Wooster, Ohio

“I made states last year. This year, it’s better, though, because we are undefeated. I’m looking forward to States and to see if we can win today this year,” Slay said.

The girls’ lacrosse team went 9-8 during the regular season. They overcame challenges to finish with a winning record.

“We have 10 seniors out there, so we have a lot of leadership,” assistant coach Theresa Rhoads said.

The team also focused on team bonding, with get-togethers at Rack it Up or meals together after practice.
