Boys and Girls Track Team Claim Federal League Title

During the Federal League Invitational Track Meet, GlenOak achieved something that they have not done in a couple years. Both boys and girls had won the Federal League Title. One goal that both teams strived for was finally achieved after such a long season.

Their hard work had paid off, the long practices in the hallways of GlenOak during the harsh winter and the long hot days on the track prepping for meets.

“Being active throughout the year is important to success in all the sports an athlete does,” coach Scott Ferrell said.

This is the first time that both teams have gone undefeated and won the Federal League Title since 2019. “It is very special, it shows the depth of our program,” Ferrell said.

Although they still have postseason left, this is a big accomplishment for both teams and an even bigger step for teams in the future.

“My advice to future teams is to remember the basics and do what you know how to do,” Ferrell said.

The team is getting ready for districts on May 19, and is looking to make a splash in the tournament.

With the date fast approaching, the team has had to step up the intensity of practices and overall atmosphere in preparation for the tournament.

“Practices were definitely more focused and centralized,” junior Tiye Joy said. “Everyone is trying to push themselves to be the best they can be in order to help advance to regionals.”

If the team makes it past districts they will move on to regionals and get one step closer to the overall goal of winning a state championship.

With momentum on their side going into the tournament a week after they clinched the Federal League Title, the team has all the right pieces to make a strong run through the postseason.
