The world of a high school senior during that latter half of the year is a roller coaster. The high and lows of applying for school and scholarships can result in a dizzying blur of stress not unlike the aftermath of a wild ride. For senior Anna McClure, this similarity goes far beyond metaphor.
McClure was declared the winner of a 97.5 WONE Kids Who Rock competition after being nominated. This contest, hosted by a rock and roll radio station, awards monthly winners with a 4-pack of passes to Cedar Point and a spot in the running for two $3,000 scholarship for his/her school of choice.
“[In order to win,] someone nominates you and describes how you exemplify leadership in 97 words or less and they choose the winners from there,” McClure said.
McClure, known for her skills in cheer and academics, was nominated for this award by her adoptive dad Keith Bowden whose paragraph is provided on the 97.5 WONE website.
“Anna is a well-rounded student who is involved in a multitude of clubs and activities at GlenOak High School,” Bowden said. “Anna is an NHS member, currently has 3 academic letters, is a 4 year member and a captain of GlenOak Cheer as well as a Student Ambassador and member of girls gymnastics team. Anna will study Elementary Education at Ohio University to become a school teacher just like her grandparents, she is currently enrolled in Teacher Pathways at GlenOak. In her spare time she babysits for multiple families and volunteers for youth cheerleader program.”
McClure plans to take full advantage of her Cedar Point passes this summer and hopes to win her scholarship as well.
