The first book is, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. It is a novel that takes place on a private island off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, following Cady’s life with her very rich family. After Cady’s brain injury gave her amnesia, she got in the summer when she was 15-years-old she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to her. As she struggles to find out what truly happened that summer, she relives it and puts the pieces together, bringing all of the feelings of summer 15 back. It is a fast-paced, suspenseful book with a twist you would have never expected. At 320 pages, this makes for a quick summer read.
The next book up is, The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise by Colleen Oakley. It is a funny, adventurous, and suspenseful story. It was supposed to be an easy job for Tanner to get her out of the house and to help her figure her life out. Tanner Quimby is a 21-year-old who suffers from a really bad hip injury and was asked to watch after 84-year-old Louise Wilt. Until Tanner got a feeling Louise is hiding something big. One day on the news, something pops up about an unsolved case of a robbery, and the thief looked just like Louise. This book follows the story of Tanner and Louise as they are on the run from the police. Will they get caught? Read to find out. This book is around 350 pages. It is a bit of a slower read, but still suspenseful and makes my list.
The last story is, Beach Read by Emily Henry. It is billed as the perfect summer romance. It follows the love story of arch-rivals January Andrews and Augustus “Gus” Everett. January is a romance author who has hit a writing slump after a terrible tragedy happened in her family. This book takes place in the summer at a lake house in Michigan she inherited from her father. Sounds wonderful right? Not for January though, this house is full of memories of her dad and his second life with his mistress. Then she meets her neighbor, who turns out to be her arch-rival Gus Everett, but it all ends up working out for her. They challenge each other to write out of their comfort zones and write in each other’s genres. This sparks their love story as they challenge each other, ending in an epic summer romance. If you want to read an unbelievable romance novel here is your pick. The plot is very predictable and so are the characters, but if that’s what you need then read this book. At 361 pages this book is a bit long for a bad storyline.
Take pleasure in all of the summer reading you will do, whether you are inside in the nice air conditioning, or outside on your porch with a glass of ice-cold lemonade, or on a beach lying on a towel and soaking up the sun. I hope you enjoy these books and you have as great a time reading them as I have.
