As the end of the 2026 school year approaches, so does football coach and athletic director Scott Garcia’s retirement from GlenOak High School. This upcoming week, Garcia will hang up his hat and set foot into the world of retirement, concluding his 26-year career as athletic director.
Following Garcia, the district has approved Kyle Sasala as GlenOak’s new athletic director. Sasala is currently the athletic director of St. Vincent St. Mary’s High School.
Garcia describes his upcoming retirement as strange, because of the longevity of his career. He looks back on the community as a highlight of his time at GlenOak.
“It’s been awesome all the way through. Relationships with people like coaches, parents and students have been the best part of my life here,” Garcia said.
Garcia leaves GlenOak with a total of 93 victories overall. During his tenure on the sidelines, the program also saw 11 state playoff appearances and four Federal League titles.
Garcia does not plan on letting retirement slow him down. Following the end of his current career, he will transition into a job specializing in community engagement and outreach at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Garcia has previously made connections with the Hall of Fame while working at GlenOak.
“I’ve done some things with the Hall of Fame for part of my job here, and it just kind of worked itself into its own job after I finished at GlenOak,” Garcia said.
Garcia will look back most fondly on the period of time when his own children walked GlenOak’s halls. Both of his own sons played sports at GlenOak, allowing him to coach them through their GlenOak careers.
Overall, Garcia remarks on the impact GlenOak had on him by teaching him different things about the community surrounding the school.
“I think getting to learn different kinds of people and cultures got me to be involved with a lot of different families. That was a really cool thing about working here,” Garcia said.
