A new era begins on the mat as GlenOak High School welcomes its latest wrestling coaches.
Due to the former head wrestling coach taking a step back from his position, GlenOak High School was able to welcome in a new head coach as well as new assistant coaches.
The former head wrestling coach, Michael Hynd, gave up his position as head coach due to scheduling conflicts and the desire to spend more time with his family. This led to the assistant coach, Lucas Krumlaugh to step up and become the new head coach.
“I felt that it was fitting for me to kind of take over because I’m going to be involved for at least another 10 years,” Krumlaugh said.
Krumluagh has been an assistant coach for eight years now. He has gained experience from watching how the previous head coach and the other assistant coaches showed him the best ways to go about being the head coach of such a big team.
“In the interview, I explained my view and my vision for the program and what I wanted it to be like and wait to see you know if I got it and I did,” Krumlaugh said.
Along with a new head coach, there is also a new assistant coach, Timothy Anderson.
“I came to GlenOak because obviously Jake’s here, my son, and the opportunity to go up there and try my hand in another program,” Anderson said.
Anderson is a U.S. and world history teacher at Perry High School and comes over to GlenOak every day to be a part of the GlenOak wrestling program. He had previously coached at Perry.
With Anderson coming down from such a notoriously good Perry High School, which is known for sending athletes to states year after year, he has very big expectations for the wrestling team. He plans on bringing the same energy to GlenOak’s wrestling team.
“Just bring work ethic, plan to get better every day and that’s all it boils down to,” Anderson said.
Youth coach John Suuton has also been involved in assisting the girls and boys wrestling team conditioning and running drills with the wrestling team. Suuton does this on a volunteer basis.
“I think that this program is going in a good direction and I think that this program is in good hands,” Suuton said.
The wrestling team has its first home dual meet this evening Jan. 8, at 6 p.m. in the gym.
